Setting up theme sections and blocks
What are the sections and blocks?
In Shopify, sections refer to customizable content areas on a webpage where you can add, arrange, and customize different elements such as images, text, videos, and products.
Blocks are individual content components that can be added and rearranged within a section to create a tailored layout. Essentially, sections provide the framework for organizing content, while blocks offer the building blocks to populate these sections with various content elements, allowing for a flexible and user-friendly way to design and customize your online store.
How to access the theme editor
Instructions
- From your Shopify admin, navigate to `
Online Store > Themes`. - Find and select the desired theme from your `
Theme library`. - Click on the `
Customize`button to access the customization panel.
How to add and configure a section
Instructions
- In the customization panel, locate and click on the `
Sections`tab. - Look for the `
Add section`button. - Click on `
Add section`and choose the desired section from the list of available options. - Customize the section by adjusting settings like display type, alignment, and visibility according to your preferences.
How to add blocks within a section
Instructions
- Find the specific section where you want to add a block.
- If necessary, expand the section view in the customization panel to reveal its blocks.
- Look for the `
Add Block`button within the selected section. The button may sometimes be labeled as `Add (specific name)`. - Click on the button to access the available blocks.
- Select the desired block type to add content to the section.
- Configure the block settings as needed.
- Repeat the process for each additional block you wish to include within the section.
