Setting up theme pages and templates
What are the pages and templates?
Pages refer to distinct areas on your website where you can display specific types of information, such as company details on an 'About Us' page, customer service contact information on a 'Contact' page, or common customer inquiries on an 'FAQ' page.
Templates are predefined layouts that determine the look and structure of pages on your website. Each template can be uniquely applied to a specific page to create a distinctive appearance, or used across multiple pages to ensure a consistent look. Think of templates as design templates that you can customize to create a visually pleasing and organized pages.

How to create a new custom page
- From your Shopify admin, navigate to `
Online Store > Pages`
. - You will see a list of all the current store pages.
- Click on the `
Add page`
button on the top right corner to create a new page. - Enter the page title and content in the provided fields.
- Customize the page URL, meta title, and meta description for SEO purposes.
- Save your changes.

By default, when you create a new page in Shopify, it is assigned a default template that determines its layout. Any changes made to this template will affect all pages using it.
For example, if you have two products and you want to display different layouts and sections on each product page, in this case, you might need to create two separate templates for each. If you want to assign a unique template to a specific page and have its individual layout for the page, follow the steps below:
How to create a new template
- From your Shopify admin, navigate to `
Online Store > Themes`
. - Click on `
...` button
next to the theme you want to customize and select`Edit Code`
. - You now have accessed the code editor of a theme. In the
`
Templates`
folder, click on `+Add a new template`
and choose the type of template you want to create (e.g., page, product, collection). - Name the new template and save the changes.
- After creating the custom template, you can assign it to specific pages. To achieve it, follow the
`How to assign template to a page`
instructions below.
